A weekend out of the heat

This weekend we finally got a chance to get out of the heat and up to visit Grandpa Ralph in Pinetop.  Much thanks to my Mom who came to babysit the dogs.

Our only trip this summer was Memorial Day weekend and Odin did not cope with either the trip or the altitude well (or both).  He was up and down all night and his breathing was definitely worse, so we decided that we shouldn't try to take him anymore.  He is on six different medications for his heart problems and gets them three times throughout the day, so we haven't felt comfortable asking anyone to pet sit and boarding him is pretty much out of the question.  My mom very generously agreed to come stay at the house and watch Odin for us. It was definitely easier to travel with just two kids but is was strange being up there without the dogs.

We had a very good time and enjoyed getting out of the heat.  There was an arts and crafts fair and we had a good time checking that out.  I got the girls some really cute tops for the girls.  They were really just the leftover top parts from dresses from repurposed clothing projects.  From what I understand, the main product takes used denim jeans, cuts off the legs and then adds the bottom of dresses to the bottom to make some pretty cute dressier denim skirts.  This leaves the top of the dresses, which she then hems and sells either separately or as part of a set with the skirt.  If you are completely lost, perhaps a picutre really is worth a thousand words, her website is here http://www.debadaircreations.com/ At least in Pinetop was she actually selling the "leftover" children's tops for only $4, and I thought they were really cute.
